With over 3,000 registered accountants in Cyprus and the big four accountancy firms all having substantial offices on the island, one would assume that the accounting and finance jobs market is saturated. Not so. Due to the ongoing increase in international firms setting up their European offices in Cyprus, as well as the expansion of off-shore companies, jobs and career opportunities in Accountancy & Finance are on the increase.
Growing activity from investors based as far afield as China and India, as well as more traditional markets nearer home, are contributing to a growing and diverse set of Accountancy and Finance job roles in Cyprus. This can be seen in real terms evidenced by the fact that the sector has been growing at an average of around 5% per year over recent years and shows no sign of slowing down.
Typical accounting and finance jobs include ensuring compliance with tax laws and preparation of tax returns and VAT, the preparation and review of IFRS financial statements, giving advice on how to reduce costs, or increasing revenues and profits. A typical position may require further qualifications such as ACCA, CFA, CySEC, IFRS, and/or LCCi.
